Kirstin and I had been dying to try out this glitter DIY we had seen going around the web. Our plan was to get regular canvas shoes, and just cover them in glitter. Needless to say, it was a blast to make, and that’s why I want to share our DIY with you.
Supplies:
– Mod Podge
– glitter of your choice (I suggest a fine glitter, but any kind can work)
– cheap, canvas shoes (We got ours at Target for $12.99)
– a bowl
– paint brushes
– painters’ tape
Step 1)
Cover the outside parts of the rubber on the shoe in painters’ tape. Anything you don’t want glitter on, should be covered.
Step 2)
Mix equal parts glitter and Mod Podge in a bowl. The consistency shouldn’t be too runny, similar to a paste. I (Gabbie) also bought some superfine glitter to mix with the coarse glitter to ensure even coverage.
Step 3)
Paint on an even coat.
Step 4)
Once that first coat has dried for about 15 minutes, follow it with a second coat.
Step 5)
After that second coat, you may notice it still looks like it needs a third coat. We went ahead and added a third coat, but found a fourth was not necessary. If you need more glitter or more coverage, go right ahead.
Step 5)
Go ahead and take that tape off, and see what a huge help it was!
Step 6)
Admire your beautiful work, and go ahead and clean any mistakes here and there. The grommets for where the laces go probably got glitter on them, but they easily be cleaned up with water and a q-tip after each layer of mod podge. It will be a lot easier in the long run! Have fun adding any cute designs or personal touches, or just leave them as is.
Have fun making these DIY glitter shoes, and good luck!

(Kirstin’s Note: Make sure you’re hands are free of any fancy manicures because after this project, my nails were messed up. )
The gold looks great!

Wow, these are very cool. This is just what I’m looking for for my wedding. They will be perfect for later in the night when my actual wedding shoes are hurting and I want something more comfortable but still glitzy.
Oh that’s such a cool idea! If you do end up doing that, please email us a picture! – Gabbie
